Steve grew up on a small farm in northern Indiana, where he learned the value of hard work and formed a lifelong bond with the great outdoors. Starting out as a telephone lineman, he brought essential services to his community, but when the Reagan recession struck Indiana, he relocated to Virginia to work as a cable puller.  Later, as supervisor for a national voice engineering team, Steve's project management skills and budgeting made him a trusted troubleshooter.

In time Steve ran his own communications company, where he learned more about the challenges that confront small business owners. He worked away at his education, earning his B.A. in Management and Business from National-Louis University. Steve has been married for 26 years, coached soccer for twelve seasons, and finds as much enjoyment in nature now as he did back on the farm in Indiana. His son is a senior at Skyline High School.
